Several categories of information will soon disappear from Facebook user profiles, Meta reports.
Facebook user profiles will no longer contain addresses, religious affiliation and political views. The “Interesting” field, which was used to express sexual orientation, has also disappeared. The change announced by Meta will take effect on December 1.
The company’s statement did not provide an explanation for the removal of information from profile pages, but the change appears to be related to a change in the platform’s privacy and ad targeting policies.
After the scandals of recent years, Meta was forced to take care of protecting the privacy of users, which can also be supported by reducing the amount of personal information.
On the other hand, also due to some controversy, Facebook stopped using these categories of information for ad targeting, so the information now removed from profile pages was no longer useful to the company.
Facebook is going through its toughest period since its inception, recently laying off around 11,000 employees. (Source: News.ro)
