This year’s Black Friday is paradoxical, because although everything is more expensive than before, traders’ estimates show that sales will be higher than in 2021, and many stores promise the biggest stocks in Romanian Black Friday history. 7.22: Interest in Black Friday this year was higher than in 2021 in Google searches. Already in mid-October, an increase in the number of searches with “peaks” was observed, when the campaigns at Flanco and Altex started and when eMAG made the first announcements. Search requests increased on November 9 and 10. On November 10, the most searched terms on Google in Romania were “Black Friday” and “Altex”.

Some Black Friday 2022 trends

According to store estimates, sales on Black Friday 2022 will, depending on the company or product category, be 5-15% higher than in 2021. The share of those who pay by card or buy via mobile phone will continue to increase. There will probably be more people going to brick-and-mortar shops, after the number was lower in 2021 due to the rules of entry with a vaccination certificate).

There will be more people ordering their products from easybox because the number of these automatic cabinets has increased significantly.

The share of those who will buy gifts on Black Friday to give at Christmas will be increasingly large, but will also buy for Christmas and New Year’s meals (for example, good, more expensive drinks).

Fashion tops Gen Z’s list (48%), while electronics and home appliances are in demand among the remaining age segments. MKOR’s analysis shows that IT&C products are mainly focused on high-income. The data confirms Romanians’ high appetite for promotion in general, a behavior that is increasingly accepted in the current economic context, the study also said.

After 2021, when Black Friday brought in revenues of around €350 million (at the level of November as a whole /online and offline), the estimated threshold of €400 million will be exceeded this year, according to estimates from consultancy Frames.

If in 2021 the average cost of an online shopping cart was 450 lei, this year, according to experts, it will exceed the level of 500 lei, Frames analysis also showed.

One area that has seen very good sales – apart from the traditional categories that usually sell well for BF – is home heating products.

Significant increases in electricity and gas bills, in general for home maintenance, have a significant impact on Romanians’ views on Black Friday shopping.

If in previous years electronics and household appliances were at the forefront, then in this period more and more customers are interested, in the online environment, as well as in brick-and-mortar stores, in solutions to increase the efficiency of energy and gas consumption, to update the house in a way to reduce their utility bills.

What discounts do the biggest stores promise?

eMAG Black Friday 2022

eMAG estimates that Black Friday 2022 sales will total 639 million lei – 30 million more than last year – and says the number of offers will be 1.5 million. eMAG promises that the ordered goods will reach everyone by November 25. On Black Friday, eMAG sells as much in one day as in a normal month.

The company says that the discounts amount to more than 360 million lei, with 69% of the offer at the best price since 2022. eMag reports that by Black Friday 2022, 160,000 small appliances, 60,000 TVs, 205,000 smartphones and gadgets, 40,000 laptops and 60,000 refrigerators and washing machines will be on sale.

eMAG does not say what time Black Friday 2022 starts, but in recent years it has started somewhere between 6.50 and 7.40. eMAG started Black Friday at 7.25am last year, 7.37am in 2020, 7.23am in 2019, 6.56am in 2018, 6.51am in 2017 and 6.55am in 2016.

Altex Black Friday 2022

Altex started the Black Friday campaign on October 27th, it will end on November 23rd, and the period is divided into four stages. The third, where the company promises the biggest deals, started on November 10. On November 11, the shops will open at 7 o’clock.

The ordered products will be delivered within a maximum of 5 days. Black Friday 2022 discounts can be up to 60% on the IT category – laptops, computer systems, monitors and printers, 45% on drinks and 40% on furniture, sanitary ware, DIY and cleaning products. Offers up to 35% can be found in the category of small appliances, and there will be discounts of up to 30% on phones, tablets, smart watches,

This year’s Black Friday at Altex, the most frequently purchased product category was mobile phones, followed by ultraHD TVs and laptops.

Flanco Black Friday 2022

Flanco started its Black Friday campaign on October 21 and will end on November 30, 2022. The retailer says it regularly restocks and promises smartphones from 299 lei, LED TVs from 399 lei, laptops from 799 lei, washing machines from 899 lei and espresso machines from 189 lei.

The number of visitors to physical stores will be higher than last year’s Black Friday, when the green certificate was mandatory. Flanco has 154 stores, products can also be ordered from easybox (there are 3,600 of them in the country).

Black Friday EvoMAG 2022

EvoMAG launched its Black Friday 2022 campaign on October 28 and will end on November 27, dividing the period into four “episodes”. The company says it has 50% more stock than the 2021 campaign, and says the biggest discounts are on TVs, laptops, home appliances, mobile phones and electric scooters.

According to the company’s estimates, sales during Black Friday increased by about 10% compared to the same period last year. EvoMAG says almost a quarter of Black Friday 2022 orders will be paid in interest-free installments.

elefant.ro Black Friday 2022

Elefant.ro started the campaign on November 7 and will end it on November 13, promising a million products “at the lowest prices of the year.” Products from all categories will be presented: from books in Romanian and English to toys, cosmetics and perfumes, fashion accessories, home decor and more.

For the first time, elefant.ro cooperates with the auction house Artmark, and paintings by Nicolae Grigorescu or Adrian Geni are included in the Black Friday 2022 offer.

Black Friday Fashion Days 2022

The Fashion Days campaign launched on November 7, and the company says it has the most inventory since Black Friday. The biggest discounts promised are 80%, and on sweaters, bags, watches and jackets – a maximum of 50-60%.

Black Friday 2022 for PC Garage

PC Garage will start the campaign on November 11 at 0:00 and promises the largest gaming stock ever: 4,500 gaming, office and multimedia laptops, 10,000 components, 7,000 gaming peripherals, 1,500 gaming chairs and tables, 2,000 monitors, 1,500 TVs and smartphones.
