CFR Infrastructura reports that a contract was signed on Thursday for the electrification and modernization of 53 km of railway between Cluj and Oradea. The term of the contract is 42 months, of which 6 months are for design and 36 months are for execution of works. The contract is part of the PNRR.
Between Alesdom and Poeni is 53 km, the fastest trains take 57-58 minutes and the slowest Regio takes more than 95 minutes. There are very short stretches of 100 km/h and much longer stretches below 50 km/h.

The national railway company CFR SA announces that on Thursday, November 10, 2022, the first contract for electrification and modernization of railway infrastructure and superstructure worth 2.11 billion lei for lot 3 Poieni – Alesd was signed, related to the investment objective “Electrification and rehabilitation of the railway line Cluj-Napoca – Oradea – Bishopric of Bihor (166.2 km)”, financed by grants provided for in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), Component 4 – Sustainable Transport.
The FCC CONSTRUCCION – GULERMAK – CCN Association won the contract
The association, selected as the winner in October, will develop a technical project and carry out work on the electrification and modernization of the railway infrastructure and superstructure for a maximum speed of 160 km/h on the 52.74 km Poeni – Alesd section, including construction works at the Bratca and Alesd Stations, in 7 traffic stops – Ciucea, Lacu Crișului, Piatra Craiului, Bulz, Şuncuiuș, Vadu Crișului, Butan -, 6 stops – Valea Drăganului, Negreni, Stâna de Vale, Bălnaca, Vadu Crișului, Alesd -, work on modernization of works of art – 10 bridges . operational works, as well as signaling works through the implementation of the ERTMS system (ETCS level 2 and GSM-R) on the entire route.
Goals of the communal economy:
– pedestrian paths at Bratca and Alesd CF stations;
– new designed passenger building in Hm Ciucea;
– sound-absorbing panels with a total length of 32,635 km;
– new repair house – designed by Hm Ciucea;
– loading and unloading ramps at Bratca and Alesd stations, as well as at Hm Ciucea, Piatra Craiului, Vadu Crișului;
– a new traction substation in Khm Butan district.
The duration of the contract for the amount of 2.11 billion lei excluding VAT is 42 months, of which 6 months for design and 36 months for execution of works.
