​CFR SA announces that the winning proposal has been determined in the public tender procedure for the procurement of services for the design and implementation of electrification and modernization of railway infrastructure and superstructures on the Cluj-Agyreş section. The winning bid is 1.61 billion lei excluding VAT.

Between Cluj and Aguirre is 28 km, non-stop trains take 25 minutes and those that stop everywhere take 41 minutes. There are very short sections where a speed of 85 km/h is reached.

The line between Cluj and Oradea is NOT electrified, but there are concrete plans for it and it will take many years. There are 166 km between Cluj and the border diocese of Bihor, divided into four sections. The estimated value of all four contracts exceeds 7.5 billion lei.

There are 17 trains per day between Cluj and Oradea in each direction, with the fastest taking 2 hours 28 minutes over 153 km and the slowest taking 4 hours 2 minutes. The fastest ones have five intermediate stops, and the ones that stop everywhere have 39 stops.

The Cluj-Oradea line has never been high-speed, as it also crosses important mountain sections through the Apuseni. In 1982, the high-speed train ran for 2 hours and 18 minutes.

What CFR SA says

The national railway company CFR SA announces that it has been recognized as the winner of the public tender procedure for the procurement of services for the design and execution of works on the electrification and modernization of the railway infrastructure and superstructure on the CLUJ-NAPOCA – AGIRES (LOT 1) section. ), concerning the investment objective “Electrification and rehabilitation of the railway line Cluj-Napoca – Oradea – Bishopric of Bihor (166.2 km)” to increase the running speed to 160 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for freight trains.

The financial offer submitted by the RAILWORKS Association in the amount of 1,611,475,802.43 lei excluding VAT was determined as the winner, the public procurement contract will be concluded and signed by both parties after the end of the judicial appeal period. The term of the contract is 42 months for design and execution of works.

The funding source will be provided from non-reimbursable external funds through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), Component 4 – Sustainable Transport – Reform 1.5 – Development of Rail Infrastructure and Rail Traffic Management.

The general purpose of the investment objective is the electrification and rehabilitation of the railway line Cluj-Napoca – Oradea – Bishopric of Bihor – Frontier (166.2 km) to increase the number of passengers and the volume of transported goods,

Specific goals:

– increasing the speed of movement to values ​​from 120 km/h to 160 km/h on the entire section;

– modernization of the station (including traffic stops)

– modernization of passenger station buildings, including the construction of pedestrian bridges and/or pedestrian tunnels, raising the level of platforms, in accordance with current European standards;

– modernization of bridges, pavements, repair of the drainage system, beautification of embankments;

– facilities for people with disabilities;

– installation of sound-absorbing panels and/or alternative solutions to reduce the noise level;

– construction of maintenance roads along the railway (in the absence of public roads);

– modernization of electrical installations (25 kV) along the entire length of the site;

– maximization of transit capacity;

– ensuring compatibility by implementing STI, especially regarding axle load (22.5 t), load dimensions (C), length of lines at stations and traffic stops

– new installations of electronic centralization at stations and implementation of the ERTMS security system (ETCS level 2 + GSM-R);

– modernization of telecommunications equipment.
