Foxconn, the world’s largest electronics maker, has increasingly ambitious plans for electric vehicles and wants to reach a 5% share worldwide by 2025. The ambition of the head of the company is to see the day when the Taiwanese group “builds Tesla cars.” for Tesla”.
Foxconn is the world’s largest manufacturer of smartphones, laptops and other electronics, accounting for more than 40% of global production in some sectors. Last year, the company’s turnover amounted to 215 billion dollars.
The company’s long-term ambition is to produce almost half of the world’s electric cars. Achieving this goal is not easy, and if it is achieved, it will take many years.
Foxconn has been making components for electric cars for several years, but in the past two years it has partnered with car companies to assemble their cars. Foxconn is NOT entering the market with any of its own brands, but wants to convince as many companies as possible that it can make cars for them, so it has shown five concepts in less than two years.
The Foxconn company presented a prototype of a B-class sports hatchback and a 4X4 pickup. Last year, the company presented three more prototypes: a sedan, an SUV and a bus.
The models introduced last year are produced in Taiwan, Thailand and the USA.
Automotive partners include Lordstown Motors and Stelantis.
