Thus, art remains one form of protection against inflation, being a long-term investment scheme. Buying a work of art is no longer an expense, but an investment, which has proven to be the most interesting business idea among those looking for safe alternative markets to place their money, as well as the ability of these markets to thrive despite the crisis. . Products in this market require no administration after purchase and provide very good capital preservation, high transfer capacity compared to other products in other markets. Over the past 3 years, Romanians have increasingly begun to taste this elegant method of saving finances. Collectors choose works signed by legacy artists, great masters of Romanian art whose value has been recognized and is constantly increasing, such as Nicolae Grigorescu, Teodor Aman or Ion Tzuculescu. But even those without a lot of capital can satisfy their pleasure of becoming collectors by choosing works of art signed by artists who are on the rise, as in the case of Corneliu Bab or Stefan Kaltia. In addition, collectors bet on heritage artworks because they cannot be reproduced and the value is less volatile and can increase over time, providing a safe form of protection against inflation.

Further, the rates of the Romanian art market during this period are oriented towards heritage investments. Thus, the October 25 auction, which features approximately 200 works of art, is again, in times of crisis, the most used means of accumulation by elites. The most valuable work of the autumn auction is signed by Theodor Aman and has a starting price of 70,000 euros. “Still Life with Cherries, Apricots and Tobacco” comes from the historical collection of Carmen Bushulenga-Nicolaou, the author of numerous specialized studies and a doctor at the pediatric clinic of the Grigore Alexandrescu Hospital in the 60s and 70s.

National artist Nicolae Grigorescu is presented at the auction on October 25 with two masterpieces. “Nomazi” comes from the important interwar historical collection of Bucharest’s Maria Cihaescu and has a starting price of €50,000, while “Ciobănaș pe valea Doftanai” starts at €40,000. The appearance of the artist who held the record for artistic works in 2021 – Ion Tzuculescu is special. The work “Cornfield” with a starting price of 40,000 euros participated in the exhibition “Romanian Art of the 20th Century”, Royal College of Art in London.

The universe of the artist Stefan Kaltia, which is becoming increasingly desirable for collectors, is reflected in 3 large works of art. EUR 25,000, EUR 15,000 and EUR 7,000 are the starting prices for the works “Green-eyed monkey”, “Parrot” and “Green parrot (doll)”.

Masterpieces signed by the great masters of Romanian art are on display in the Cesianu-Rakovice Palace and can be visited from Monday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Autumn Auction – 100 Best Grand Masters of Romanian Art will take place from 19:00 in Artmark’s Casa A10 auction room, as well as online on the Artmark Live 2.0 platform.
