Donald Trump’s social network Truth Social can be downloaded from the Google Play Store from Wednesday after the internet giant refused to allow it this summer, saying the former US president’s platform lacked sufficient content moderation, writes AFP.

Google told AFP that Truth Social had finally agreed to enforce its own rules on removing incitement to violence and had committed to doing so in the future.

Unlike iOS on the iPhone, Google’s Android operating system for smartphones allows the user to download an app through channels other than the Google Play app store.

However, the platform is still the preferred method for most Android phone owners, who make up roughly three-quarters of the global smartphone population.

Fox Business Network previously reported that Truth Social stopped paying to host its RightForge platform several months ago.

“Truth Social is financially sound, as evidenced by its ability to recently raise $15 million in bridge financing,” the company said in a statement posted on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s website in late August.

Launched at the end of February, Truth Social wants to be an alternative to the big social networks, especially Twitter, access to which Donald Trump has been suspended since the beginning of January 2021, with the leitmotif of freedom of expression and minimal content moderation. .
