ANAF chairman Lucian Heiush said that there are approximately 300,000 companies in Romania that do not have a bank account, out of a total of 1.6 million companies. Heyush clarified that work is underway to amend the Fiscal Procedural Code, but these companies cannot be forced to open their accounts.

When asked on Sunday’s Digi 24 broadcast whether the level of voluntary payment compliance has increased, ANAF head Lucian Heyush said it had reached 86 percent, news.ro reports.

“Today we can discuss the degree of compliance of declarations of 95 percent, compliance of payments of 86 percent,” Lucian Geiusz said.

Also, when asked if it has become easier to pay, the head of ANAF explained that it is not difficult, but there are many companies that do not have a bank account.

“It doesn’t seem difficult to me. Today, it is not difficult to make a declaration and submit it, it is also not difficult to make a payment. On the contrary, by conducting various analyses, we found that about 300,000 business entities do not have a bank account. ANAF is not to blame. They do not have a bank account through which you can make payments, income, they work only in cash. I was equally surprised. In addition, some of them are registered VAT payers. A total of 1.6 million. One out of four companies in Romania does not have a bank account,” Heyush emphasized.

The head of ANAF added that he is working on amendments to the Fiscal Procedural Code.

“Now I am working on an amendment to the Fiscal Procedural Code, with which I try to regulate this aspect. I’m afraid we might run into some European directives, you can’t force someone to open a bank account. On the other hand, it seems abnormal to me to start a company, you get all the registrations, but you no longer go to open a bank account as usual. And come on the 25th, if you come, bring a blanket and pay some taxes in cash to the treasury. For those who do not have a bank account, the risk analysis detects that something is happening there,” said Lucian Geiusz.
