The institution says it discovered a difference of more than 50,000 lei between the declared and realized incomes of 500,000 people, press agencies report.

ANAF’s revenues increased in the first eight months of the year by 22.4% in nominal terms and by 12.5% in real terms to 246.2 billion lei, ANAF President Lucian Heiush said. Geiusz says he started getting threatening calls because of the control.

The institution’s plan for this year is 375.9 billion lei, Heyush told Digi24. The President of ANAF clarified that about 300,000 companies in Romania, i.e. approximately one in four, do not have a bank account and work only with cash.

The head of ANAF said that the largest difference between declared and realized income was for an individual from Timisoara.

“In August, the largest amount was for an individual from Timisoara, the difference was 4.6 million lei, and the calculated tax was one million and a bit lei. I’ve been going for the last 5 years, because anything that comes out in those 5 years is a statute of limitations,” Heyush said.

The head of ANAF, Lucian Heyush, said that this year alone, six to seven employees of the institution were caught red-handed while receiving bribes. Heyush emphasized that this is not a mass phenomenon, however, and that most ANAF employees are honest people.

When asked if ANAF is still being hacked, Lucian Heyusch admitted that it still happens.

“Unfortunately, yes. We’ve had six or seven inspectors this year who were directly arrested because they were caught red-handed. It happens. No one goes on an inspection anymore without a risk analysis that clearly shows that certain elements are being done, to justify why you are going there. How can this temptation be reduced? Minimizing contact between the inspector and the business entity. The faster we can digitize, the more we can get access from the inspector’s office to the company’s accounting, the more we will reduce the direct contact between inspectors and taxpayers,” Heyush said.

At the same time, the head of ANAF emphasized that most inspectors are honest people, reports news.ro.

“This is not a mass phenomenon. A handful of people cast anathema on the entire ANAF, where the vast majority are honest people, people dedicated to their profession. But, unfortunately, there are such people,” Lucian Geiusz added.
