Lawyers for Nokia, the manufacturer denied 5G networks in Romania, ask the court for access to classified information

It all has to do with the so-called 5G security law (Law 163/2021) passed last year, which transposes into law the 5G Memorandum signed by Romania and the US, which could exclude the Chinese giant Huawei, one of the biggest 5G manufacturers worldwide . , from telecommunication networks of Romania.

According to the law, permission to manufacturers of 5G equipment and programs is granted by the Prime Minister’s decision based on the approval of the Supreme Council of National Defense (CSAT) within 4 months from the date of the request.

  • Equipment and applications from a 5G manufacturer that has not received CSAT approval can only be used for 5 years in the core of telecommunications networks, and other equipment for 7 years.

However, until we see an official decision on the Chinese with Huawei, the telecom market was surprised by CSAT’s decision to deny the Finns Nokia.

HotNews.ro first wrote in March of this year that two member companies of the Finnish Nokia group sued the Romanian government after they failed to obtain CSAT permission to use 5G infrastructure equipment in the country’s communications networks. Nokia is one of the largest manufacturers of 5G equipment and solutions alongside Huawei and Ericsson, and the government did not give reasons for its refusal.

CSAT rejected two companies: Nokia Solutions and Networks OY and Nokia Networks SRL, both part of the Finnish Nokia Group, and the process was initiated March 25, 2022 at the Bucharest Court of Appeal.
