“We made a decision in the Coalition to analyze at the level of the Ministry of Natural Resources the beginning of the program to replace incandescent lamps with LED ones. These are light bulbs with low energy consumption,” Prime Minister Nicolae Chuke said on Friday when asked what measures the government is taking to reduce energy waste in line with European Commission requirements.
The Prime Minister noted that there are other methods of reducing waste that will be adopted at the government level.
“Secondly, at the government level of public institutions, we will do things to reduce waste, and there are methods by which we can establish a specific work schedule. One of the decisions at the level of the Government was that at 12 o’clock at night, the mural lighting is turned off.” Suuka said.
The government is considering the Rabelais program for light bulbs
The executive is considering the creation of a “Rabla” program for light bulbs in an effort to “consciously” reduce waste in the context of the energy crisis and skyrocketing bills, government sources told HotNews.ro on Thursday.
Thanks to this program, incandescent lamps will be replaced by LED ones, the details of which will be analyzed by the Ministry of Environment next week, which discussed measures to replace incandescent lamps with LED ones for both the public and institutions.
In addition, all ministries dealing with energy policy will come up with proposals in the context of the energy crisis.
Prime Minister Nicolae Chuke asked ministers on Wednesday to develop plans for measures to reduce electricity wastage in public institutions. The measures must be submitted to the Government meeting in more than 2 weeks.
Energy Minister Virgil Popescu also gave an example of measures that can be taken.
- “Here in Romania, something can be done… I think we have much more room for maneuver than other countries. I think that here, both domestically and in other areas, state institutions believe that there is an opportunity, for example, to replace inefficient lighting devices with efficient lighting devices, which can be done in other members of the state already. We have the possibilities…” – said Minister of Energy Virgil Popescu regarding the European Commission’s proposals to reduce electricity wastage.
The European Commission has proposed emergency intervention in Europe’s energy markets to deal with the recent sharp rise in prices, with exceptional electricity demand reduction measures to help reduce the cost of electricity to consumers, as well as measures to redistribute excess revenues from the energy sector to final consumers.
One of the proposals is an obligation for EU member states to reduce electricity consumption by at least 5% during peak hours, according to a European Commission summary document published on Wednesday.
