​Prime Minister Nicolae Chuke admitted on Friday that there are suspicions about the illegal blocking of Blue Air accounts. “There are also such suspicions, so the Control Authority will determine the real reasons,” said Chuke, quoted by Agerpres.

“As I already said and as I noted from the beginning, on the one hand we make sure that citizens benefit from the support of the state when they face such situations, and on the other hand, those who made a mistake must pay for what they did,” the prime minister added.

The Prime Minister’s watchdog has been sent to the Environment Ministry to investigate how the Environmental Protection Fund Administration blocked concordat accounts at Blue Air, government sources said on Thursday.

According to the cited sources, the Environmental Fund should not have blocked these accounts, and the Minister of Ecology explained that the decision was made by an official.

“The minister was not aware of this decision of the ACM regarding the blocking of accounts. ASM sent summons for payment several times, but they did not respond to Blue Air, and they considered it necessary,” the cited sources showed. .

Blue Air Aviation announced on Tuesday, September 6, that it is suspending until Monday, September 12, all flights scheduled to depart from Romanian airports, due to the seizure of all company accounts by the Ministry of the Environment, which makes it impossible for the company to pay the ongoing costs necessary to operate daily flights.

Although a day later, on September 7, the Environmental Protection Agency announced that it had decided to suspend the seizure of Blue Air Aviation’s cash and establish a 12-month debt repayment schedule, the budget airline subsequently announced that it would only resume flights from October 10. noting that it does not have the necessary funds to pay for fuel and other operating expenses required for flights scheduled from September 12.

At the same time, the airline warned passengers whose flights are scheduled until October 10, 2022, not to show up at the departure airports, as these flights are not being operated.

In this context, the executive authority approved the allocation of 5 million lei from the reserve fund available to the government to supplement the budget of the Ministry of Transport for the purpose of transporting Romanians stuck in airports abroad due to the cancellation of Blue Airlines flights.

The call center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, diplomatic missions and consular offices of Romania received 2,663 requests for assistance by September 8 from Romanians affected by the suspension of Blue Air flights, the government said.
