The government will send the draft budget for 2023 to the parliament in November, so far no decision has been taken on increasing pensions, Prime Minister Nicolae Chuke said on Thursday.
Chuke made these statements together with PSD leader Marcel Cholaku, who was persistently asked by journalists about increasing pensions.
- “Both I and the Prime Minister see the need to increase pensions.
- Moreover, Mr. Prime Minister, in the first year after a long time, we should start the discussion and submit the budget law to the Romanian Parliament in November, together with the second amendment, so that it would be a clear signal of stability,” said the SDP leader.
The government will send the draft budget for 2023 to the parliament in November, so far no decision has been taken on increasing pensions, Prime Minister Nicolae Chuke said on Thursday.
Chuke said that he also discussed with the leader of the PSD and in the government that the first analysis of the draft budget for 2023 will be carried out in October and then that it will be sent to the parliament for adoption in November: “Since Mr. President is still here (no – Marcel Cholaku), we want the project to be adopted in November.”
In response to repeated questions from journalists, he also stated that no simulations were made regarding pension increases.
“We are discussing a responsible decision and do not want to publish figures that are not confirmed by the draft budget. We also discussed at the PNL level the hypotheses with which to enter the coalition, discuss them, analyze them and, of course, we will come to a common agreement,” the prime minister added.
PNL First Vice President Rares Bohdan said the other day that PNL wants to increase pensions by 16 percent and that Finance Minister Adrian Cachiu must find a source of funding or “go home.”
“The proposal will be at least a 16% increase to reach a percentage of 40%. Mr. Cachiu is obliged to find a source of financing for an increase of at least 16%. This is not my proposal, this is PNL. If he can’t find the resources, let him go home. He announced a 10% increase. This is not 10%, but 16% – according to the law. We are waiting for them to come to the Coalition with budgetary resources and make an increase. Neither 5 nor 10% is an insult to Romanians,” he said.
Raresh Bohdan also criticized PSD Minister Adrian Cachiu regarding the loans he provides.
Finance Minister Adrian Cachiu said at the end of a cabinet meeting that “there is room and there is still a need” to increase pensions next year.
“I will not comment on the percentage, I can tell you that there is a place and there is a need, and the final decision will be made in the Coalition, because it is necessary to compensate for the loss of purchasing power. several categories of citizens are balanced, not just pensioners,” said Adrian Cachiu, when asked if there is a possibility to increase pensions by 10% in 2023.
