The National Bank of Romania (BNR), the Financial Supervision Authority (ASF), the Ministry of Finance (MF) and the Romanian Association of Banks (ARB) organized the fourth edition of the Urban Financial Education Camp Project from June to August 2022.
The project is conducted annually within the framework of the Agreement on cooperation in the field of financial education and is dedicated to students of grades 6-7. This year, students who had the opportunity to be a part of this experience are studying in schools in Bucharest, Ilfov, Timisoara, Cluj, Dolj, Iași, Constanta.
During the five days of the camp, specialists from BNR, ASF, MF/ANAF and ARB presented and explained financial terms and concepts. Each group of students received useful information in order to develop healthy habits and money management skills in order to make the right and informed choices to improve their financial situation.
In this context, the program approaches a non-formal learning methodology called edutainment (education through entertainment). Thus, the activity is based on a multi-sensory method, which leads to accelerated learning, constant participation of children in the educational process. Games and activities are used to demonstrate important concepts so that students learn and have fun at the same time.
Also, from August 28 to September 2, a meeting dedicated to children from disadvantaged families was organized. It took place in the Department of Professional Development and Social Activities of the National Bank of Romania in Kumpetu – Sinaia, in an informal setting. The participants were provided with the necessary infrastructure to create a pleasant atmosphere in which knowledge and information were absorbed at an optimal level.
Financial education occupies a strategic place in the agenda of the signatories of the Cooperation Agreement. The agreement between the four institutions and the Ministry of Education aims to develop a National Strategy for Financial Education (SNEF) and conduct joint activities in the field of financial education.
