Officially! The new season of the Romanian art market has started at the auction house A10 by Artmark, where no less than 5 auction exhibitions took place, presenting more than 1000 works of art or collectibles. In the new season, which will run from September to December, the representative auction house of Romanian art plans 20 art and history auctions organized during 4 months, about 10% more than in 2018-2019, the peak period before the pandemic.
The explanation for the slight increase in art and history auctions is the house’s expectation that demand for art will pick up again starting in late 2022 for at least 18 to 24 months amid inflation and shrinking other investment markets. The arguments are economic as well as historical, compared to the period 2010-2012, when the demand for art, which was seen as a tool to preserve the value of money, increased by a percentage ranging from 50 to 100% per year.
The advantages of the art auction market are mainly two: the art starts the auction at a value well below the market value, about 30-50% of the market value, and the buyer bids the price he wants, so the auction price is set by the buyer, not the seller ; thanks to this unique pricing formula, it is unaffected by inflation, making the art auction market the only investment market that is theoretically unaffected by inflation.
On the other hand, the art market has always been seen, not only in inflationary periods but also in the context of economic prosperity, as a haven market whose assets, depending on the circumstances, either retain their value for money or are suitable for investment. , is likely to bring the buyer an increase in value associated with the gradual sanctification of the artist in which he invests.
Another advantage of the art market is that it works with unique things, their variety is maximum: if collectors or art lovers may prefer modern art or classic style, collector cars, jewelry, icons or rare wines, then the new auction season has planned thematic auction. for every budget and every cultural concern.
In addition to the function of art as an investment alternative with a cheap entry ticket and, more recently, general online access, the new perspectives of the Romanian art market are also aimed at social responsibility. Thus, in the new season, the A10 by Artmark Auction House continues the Auction of Good Deeds, the largest charitable fund-raising project, a platform that unites the humanitarian causes of the most important associations or charitable foundations in Romania.
On Friday, September 2nd, the doors of the Cesianu-Rakovice Palace, the headquarters of the auction house A10 by Artmark, are open to the general public again and offer art lovers, from Monday to Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., free of charge, the opportunity to receive a new artistic experience every month.
