Involvement of women in the economy and politics, reduction of gender gaps and entrepreneurship education were the main topics of the agenda of discussions held two days ago by the delegation of the National Confederation of Women’s Entrepreneurship – CONAF with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Natalia Gavrilice.
CONAF is the first delegation of Romanian women’s entrepreneurship, with which Prime Minister Natalia Havrilice met in a symbolic context, when the Republic of Moldova celebrated the Day of the Romanian Language. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova presented to the delegation the measures taken to reduce gender gaps in politics and public administration, their consequences and a set of priorities for the future.
“I appreciate the efforts made to support the interests of women’s entrepreneurship, improving the prospects of women in the economic and political space, and the agenda dedicated to supporting the importance of entrepreneurship education. Now our attention is focused on the economic sphere, and the priority is the introduction of a mandatory quota in the boards of state-owned companies. I believe that together we will achieve better results in order to implement the difficult goals of gender equality in practice,” said Prime Minister Nataliya Gavrylytse.
In the political space, the authorities of the Republic of Moldova managed to regulate the double gender quota with very good results
The 40% representation quota and provision for inclusion in the lists increased the number of women in the legislative body of the Republic of Moldova in 2021, becoming the largest number of female deputies elected in the history of Moldova – 40.6% of the total number of deputies. By the 2021 elections, the share of female deputies was 25%. This fact led to a significant increase in the level of gender equality in the political field, noted Havrilice.
“Prime Minister Nataliya Havrylytse demonstrated her interest and complete openness in supporting and encouraging women entrepreneurs. We have set a number of common goals and will work together to achieve them. Our goals are to increase the number of women in leadership positions, reduce the gender pay gap, strengthen future gender equality and entrepreneurship education. We will work together to calibrate the legislation on mandatory gender quotas on the boards of state-owned companies, as well as in the institutional environment. I congratulate the government of Chisinau for implementing gender equality in politics and public administration, and I believe they are an example of good practice for Romania,” said Cristina Kyriac, President of CONAF.
The official meeting with Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilice was the latest in a series of events and meetings aimed at promoting successful businesswomen from Central and Eastern Europe to bring together public and private sector leaders to support women entrepreneurs.
The CONAF delegation had a number of bilateral meetings with representatives of the business environment and an official meeting with His Excellency, the Ambassador of Romania in Chisinau, Cristian-Leon Tsurcanu.
The authorities of Chisinau have declared September the “month of business in the Republic of Moldova” and intend to increase attention to gender equality in business and entrepreneurship education.
CONAF was represented by Cristina Kyriac, President of CONAF, Nicoleta Munteanu, Vice President of CONAF, Dana Sireasa, President of CONAF Braila, Viorika Puskas, Vice President of CONAF and Dana Nuce, President of the Federation of Employers for Education and Social Affairs. entrepreneurship
