Twitter has announced that it will begin specific testing of a button that will allow editing messages, and it is expected to be available to all users, but it will take time until then. This is one of Twitter’s biggest changes since 2017, when posts were limited to 280 characters instead of 140.
Tweets will be able to be edited multiple times within the first 30 minutes of initial posting, and posts will be clearly marked to make it clear that the tweet has been edited. There will also be a clear history of all changes to clearly see what has changed since the first version.
Over the years, many users have been clamoring for an “edit button,” but company officials said that’s not the case because such a button can be used to change the meaning of a tweet that has gone viral.
The Edit Tweet functionality is already being tested by Twitter staff and will be available to Twitter Blue followers in a few weeks. Twitter Blue is a service available only in a few countries: USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
The company says that, like the other changes, the Edit button is being tested on a small audience so that any issues found can be found and fixed before the button is available to all 237 million users.
