The second quarter of this year saw a significant sell-off in stocks amid rapidly deteriorating market conditions, as well as rising interest rates, inflation and slowing economic growth exacerbated by the military conflict in Ukraine and the blockade in China. In the context of market volatility and expectations of a recession, capital markets have been hit hard, with their main indices all but reversing last year’s gains in the first half of 2022, with the exception of the FTSE 100, a strong energy and commodities index.
