Searching for causes to support, choosing social responsibility campaigns to which you will participate, proposing projects with social impact is certainly not an easy mission. There are many causes to support and many needs to be addressed. And for a CSR program to be truly successful, it is important that it aligns with the company’s values, as well as the expectations and desires of employees. In addition to monetary donations, furniture, technical equipment and other large-scale initiatives, Adobe Romania encourages employees to choose projects they believe in and causes they want to support.
“From the very beginning, I liked the idea of CSR. I had never heard of this before and it seemed like a really good opportunity to get involved. I was a member of the CSR team for two years, and now I am the co-head of CSR from Romania. During this period, I participated in several impact projects, such as Change for Change, which consists of filling 330 ml jars with crumbs. Together with Habitat for Humanity, we helped build a house in Buftea and planted trees with Plant Good Deeds. They collected things and clothes from employees for underprivileged children and even volunteered in various non-profit associations.” – Alina Eftinoiu, Software Engineer at Adobe Romania.
Impact of CSR policy on employee engagement
Report on Hewitt and Associates looks like “Corporate social responsibility can increase employee satisfaction, giving the most engaged a reason to stay and work more productively.”
This means that organizations have an additional reason to engage in social responsibility campaigns. In fact, companies that implement effective CSR campaigns report important positive outcomes, such as high retention rates, employee engagement, new candidate attraction, job satisfaction, and performance.
While companies want productive, motivated, happy and loyal employees, employees want to develop professionally as well as personally, to feel that their work is relevant, to help, to be good professionals as well as to be socially responsible. Employees need a supportive environment and an employee-centric organizational culture, and data from employer branding company Comparably, which analyzed more than 70,000 employers, ranks Adobe as the top happiest employee in 2021.
Therefore, Adobe Romania has specially designed, created and developed a program where employees can participate in the evaluation of projects registered in the local community and can decide which projects will receive a grant of 20,000 USD each. According to the results of this year’s voting through the program Public fund of employees7 associations, namely the Lindenfeld Association, the GO-AHEAD Association, the Social Incubator Association, the Children’s Forest Association, the Help Autism Association, the MagiCAMP Association, and the Association for the Support of Patients with Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis (ASPTMR), were sponsored for $20,000 each.
“Adobe has a lot of great CSR programs. Since I have been employed, I have participated in various activities. For example, I participated in a program supported by the World Vision Association to get students interested in IT in grades 10-12. In this program, together with other Adobe colleagues, I taught computer science to a group of 40 students from different parts of Romania. In the program, students were able to create their own apps on the phone using a platform called Thunkable, which allowed students to understand basic programming concepts as well as more complex concepts commonly used by programmers.” – Daniela Ene, Development Manager, Adobe Romania.
What social initiatives do Adobe Romania employees support?
Among the projects supported by Adobe Romania in the framework of CSR programs are the donation of furniture through the non-profit association Aura Ion worth more than 65,000 euros for schools in rural areas, as well as the donation of 114 laptops to children from local communities with the help of the World Vision association.
In addition to large-scale initiatives like the ones mentioned above, Adobe Romania also organizes various workshops at the headquarters in Bucharest, where employees can create various decorative objects. For every 10 employees who participate in such activities, the company donates $1,000 to a non-profit association.
In addition, to reward employee engagement, Adobe matches employee donations to support the work of a non-profit organization through its matching grant program.
I have been involved for almost 5 years in the vast majority of the company’s CSR programs and lead a team of volunteers at our center in Bucharest. Adobe strongly supports direct employee involvement in CSR activities to make a positive difference in the local community. Together with my colleagues, we advance causes related to education, health, family, child protection, care for the elderly and the environment, Marius Duce, Engineering Program Manager.
