Electric cars are on the rise today, and have been for several years. And over time, sales continue to grow.
Cleaner electric cars
But this creates a small problem. What about the demand for lithium, which is also getting stronger and stronger, while this material is mined in unethical and polluting conditions? Well, battery recycling is undoubtedly one of the most viable solutions at the moment. And this is thanks to many companies, including young startup based in France, near Angers. The latest is called VoltR, and its mission is to redefine the billions of lithium batteries that accompany us every day, be it in our smartphones, electric scooters, bicycles and other vehicles. But how does the company manage to recycle these batteries, which are already unusable? The idea is simple but brilliant: instead of immediately recycling them, the company focuses on recovering these batteries to bring them back to the market. In fact, many discarded batteries are still in good condition and can be reused in other less performance-demanding devices.
Useful for the following electric vehicles
The VoltR project was born three years ago, initially as a computer repair company. However, the team quickly realized that some used batteries could be reused in different contexts. Instead of recycling them prematurely, VoltR decided to use them to the maximum. First of all, the batteries must be completely disassembled and their components and electrical elements separated. These cells are then recovered and re-integrated into new battery packs after analysis using artificial intelligence, allowing for expanded use. The company collects these batteries directly from the manufacturers and transfers them severe diagnosis. VoltR’s approach is double-beneficial: it reduces waste by extending the life of batteries, and helps reduce the CO2 emissions associated with the production of new batteries.
A smart decision, which is waiting for a brilliant future with the appearance of electric cars all over the world!
