Refueling is never fun. And this is largely due to the fact that the prices are particularly high.

Fuel: Keep an eye on the boost

Indeed, gas station prices have literally skyrocketed in recent years. And unfortunately, this is likely to continue. Indeed, fuel prices may well rise in the future due to the price of a barrel of oil, which rose sharply a few days ago, reaching its highest level in at least four months. THE a barrel of Brent, the main benchmark in Europe, closed at $85.42. USA, rising by 1.65%. For another benchmark, West Texas Intermediate (WTI), the trend is similar, with the price at $81.26 at the same time, representing an increase of 1.93%. But what is the reason for this new increase? To tell the truth, there is not one, but several of them. Above all, demand remains high, especially in the United States, where it exceeds nine million barrels per day. And this despite the fact that the main tourist season will not begin before the end of May. In addition, geopolitical tensions between Ukraine and Russia are driving up prices.

Fuel: not yet at its peak

However, if the price of a barrel is very high, then it has not yet reached the peak recorded in June 2022. Then the latter cost at least 122 dollars. So the current increase may show up at the pump with a delay of a few days here in France. This is due to the fact that the price of gasoline is increasing, and the price of diesel fuel is decreasing recently. But what about markups applied by distributors? The latter were recently allocated consumer association CLCV. However, the government is currently refusing to intervene on behalf of consumers. He is waiting until fuel prices approach the €2 per liter mark to apply his famous €100 cheque. And at the moment, this is not yet relevant, even if prices are rising rapidly. Fortunately, some brands are offering promotions to help the French.

In short, motorists will have to prepare for higher costs at gas stations, while distributors’ margins remain under control. Let’s hope that steps are taken to relieve consumers during this period of rising prices.
