Concept Mercedes Vision EQXX it’s more than just a style study, it predicts the future of electric cars from the German brand, and that’s why Mercedes is using it to try to break records for range and power consumption.
A long trip to the Middle East
After two long journeys across Europe, including a journey of over 1,000 km to the Cote d’Azur, the Mercedes Vision EQXX headed to the Arabian Desert for a third journey more than 1000 kilometers on one chargeand at an ambient temperature of up to 34 degrees.
On a difficult route through the city and even the desert, the test car consumed electricity 7.4 kW/100 km, which is equal to consumption of about 0.9 l/100 km for a gasoline car. In the Mercedes Vision EQXX, it is undeniable broke his own record.
“With an exceptional consumption of just 7.4 kWh/100 km, the Vision EQXX continues to provide valuable data for the further development of advanced electric efficiency technologies. As expected, all systems performed flawlessly in desert conditions, handling issues such as road surface finish and temperature, as well as dust, with ease. Another proof that the electric motor is ready for global markets”Markus Schaefer, Chief Technical Officer of the Mercedes-Benz Group, said on this occasion.
Mercedes Vision EQXX: record sobriety
The journey of the Mercedes Vision EQXX started in the Arabian Peninsula, at the Mercedes-Benz Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and headed to the Mercedes-Benz Brand Center in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
In general, not less than 1010 kilometers were driven in 14 hours 42 minutes and had some range left on arrival: in fact the car left Riyadh at 4:15am with a full battery and still showing 309 kilometers of autonomy when she arrived in Dubai at 19:57.
The route included urban and suburban sections in Riyadh and Dubai with heavy traffic, as well as long stretches of highway through the desert. The purpose was to demonstrateperformance of the car in extreme temperature conditions.
Weather conditions also allowed for the use of a solar panel on the car’s roof: 117 solar cells were used to power auxiliary equipment, reducing energy consumption and increasing overall efficiency. During this trip, 1.8 kWh of solar energy was mined, which increased the range by about 24 km.
In general, the Mercedes Vision EQXX concept has already traveled 23340 kilometers on the road, since its presentation to the public two years ago.
