When you own a car, you have to fulfill numerous obligations. Among them, passing technical inspection.
Inspection: What about insurance?
But from April 15, not only cars and utility vehicles will pass this mandatory exam. Indeed, this also applies to two-wheeled vehicles, be it motorcycles or scooters. Which clearly does not please the bikers, and in particular the members of the FFMC (French Federation of Angry Bikers). The latter are increasing protest initiatives against the implementation of this measure. Last? A call for a mass boycott. But what about insurance? Will the vehicles still be covered, even without MOT? Customer service team at AMV company recently emailed its customers to explain its position. The message is clear: whether you get your motorcycle serviced or not, your insurance will still be valid. The insurance states that “you will not be required to provide any MOT-related evidence, either for insurance purposes or to verify your file in the event of a claim.”
Inspection: beware of fines
However, the company notes that during a police check, it will probably be impossible for those who resist to avoid a fine. Indeed, the lack of technical control can entail sanctions, according to article P323-1 of the Road Traffic Act. This position of AMV joins that of Mutuelle des Motards, which already announced a few weeks ago that it will continue to insure policyholders who have not passed the roadworthiness test. Other insurance companies may follow suit in the coming months. The confrontation between the users and the authorities promises to be lively, and the protests continue and no one is ready to give up on either side. It remains to be seen whether the boycott of inspection centers will be strictly supported or not in the coming weeks. The state, for its part, is ready to implement this measure, although it has not been talking about this topic for several months and is ignoring disgruntled bikers.
In short, if you own a two-wheeler yourself, keep in mind that your insurance remains valid regardless of your MOT choices.
