now we know Volkswagen ID model range, which of all the electric ones, barely met its audience in Europe and the whole world. However, the German brand decides to take the bull by the horns, announcing about sports versions of its electric range, GTX. We’ve had thermal engineering versions of the GTI, so now GTX for electrical. But this is not surprising, because VW presented us with a teaser of the ID.2 GTX concept in March 2023.

250 kW for the GTX version!

As previously stated, this is the ID.7 Tourer GTX the most powerful station wagon ever created by Volkswagen. The base ID.7 Tourer was already in development 286 hp, but VW decided to go even further with the GTX version. For this, the German brand decided to install a completely new engine designed for summer ID.7 Tourer GTX, the ability to travel long distances between two charging stops. The minimum volume for a station wagon that is intended for driving on the road. It contains a new battery with useful capacity 86 kW/h which can be charged at fast DC charging stations up to 200 kW. Volkswagen claims to charge from 10 to 80% in well under 30 minutes.
But the most important thing about this GTX version of the ID.7 Tourer is its power. And with both engines, one for each front and rear axleit provides cumulative power 250 kW, or 340 hp. With this power, it is a direct competitor to the BMW I5 Touring in the eDrive40 version, which also develops 340 hp.
However, Volkswagen is not reporting any figures for range, vehicle weight or even 0-100 km/h performance.

For comparison, the ID.7 Tourer in the basic version offers, according to Volkswagen, a range of 687 km according to the WLTP cycle.

Shooting break?

With this ID.7 Tourer GTX, there is no stylistic surprise very similar to the base version. But can we consider the ID.7 Tourer GTX with the power of a shooting break? To enter this category, a wagon must be sporty, comfortable, with smooth lines and have a very large trunk.
with 340 hp under the hood, the ID.7 Tourer GTX easily fits into the sports car category. To find out if the ID.7 Tourer GTX is comfortable, we’ll wait until we try the model on Auto Plus to let you know. As far as smooth lines go, we can say that this is what makes this ID.7 Tourer GTX a charm. Lines that also contribute to the creation of this ID.7 Tourer GTX more aerodynamic, the electric car obliges. As for the trunk of this ID.7 Tourer, it offers large capacity of 605 l in normal configuration and to 1714 l with the rear seat folded. Not bad for an electric station wagon!

GTX Style!

The sports version obliges, Volkswagen brought stylistic changes to the base ID.7 Tourer to make it more aggressive. To do this, it uses a new honeycomb grille and light signature characteristic of the GTX series. Honeycomb, which can also be found on the rear bumper. All elements of the outer part of the case have been replaced with glossy black. As for the wheels, the ID.7 Tourer GTX comes standard with them new wheels 20 inches with five branches. Later, new 21-inch wheels will be offered as an option.
The standard equipment has been expanded in the GTX ID.7 Tourer version, so you will find the basic equipment all-wheel drive electric (4MOTION) and matrix LED projectors, nicknamed VW “IQ.LIGHT”. You also have, as standard, 3D LED rear lightsas well as illuminated Volkswagen emblems on the front and rear.
A few details about this version of the GTX, which isn’t all that different from the base version of the ID.7 Tourer. However, according to VW’s admission: “The GTX versions have established themselves as their own brand in the style of the iconic GTIs.” Everyone will decide!

Always more technological!

We have already seen this with the ID.7 Tourer, the last one was passed a step in terms of embedded technology. And, logically, the ID.7 Tourer GTX continues this momentum. Concerning Renault Scénic E-Tech and its “SolarBay», the ID.7 Tourer GTX is optionally equipped with a panoramic roof that can be darkened using electronics. There’s also an augmented reality head-up display inside that can also show navigation from a phone connected to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone automatic climate control, which can optionally be upgraded to three zones. This ID.7 Tourer GTX also includes a voice assistant connected to ChatGPT.
Like all modern cars, ID.7 Tourer GTX offers many driver aids such as a new door open warning, a parking assist function including a memory function that allows fully automatic parking within a distance of 50 m. You also have Emergency Brake Assist or the Car2X system, which assists the driver by informing them of a potential construction site, accident or traffic jam.
