If the health crisis is related toThe epidemic of COVID-19 led to a drop in new car sales, they are finally starting to grow again. The same goes for manufacturing, which is also growing, especially electric cars.
France does not produce many electric cars
Thus, the latter has been growing again little by little in recent months all over the world, and especially in China. But what about France? Well, unfortunately, our country is not exactly the best student. In any case, this is how the journalists of the Challenges website, who emphasize this, explain it only 120,000 electric cars new ones were produced in France in the last year. At the same time, more than 300,000 vehicles of this type are registered in the country, including 298,500 cars. If we dig into the details, we see that Renault has produced 77,600 electric vehicles in 2023, including the Mégane E-Tech in Douai, Fleins and Maubeges. THE Wizard and traffic are gathering in Sanduvil in Primorska Sen. On the Stellantis side, 34,000 Opel Mokkas and 3,500 electric DS3s were produced in Poissy in 2023. Unfortunately, the numbers are still too low.
Electric cars are still far behind
Marc Morture, director of Automotive Platform, regrets that “ Electric cars are very rarely produced in France“, which obviously creates a problem for the economy. Especially since we know that production in France will reach 1.5 million units in 2023, which remains low compared to previous years. In 2019, this figure was actually 2.2 million, compared to 3.66 million in 2004. But how to explain such a downward trend, which worries specialists, and in particular economists? Well, in particular, we should blame the transfer of production between manufacturers, for example, at Stellantis. Many Peugeot and Citroën electric cars are imported, in particular, from Slovakia and Spain.
Faced with this challenge, the French automotive industry will have to redouble its efforts to encourage the local production of electric vehicles and thus contribute to the transition to more sustainable mobility.
