WWCOTY: Here comes the car of 2024! Auto Plus news in your smartphone

Every year at the beginning of the year, trophies and all kinds of prizes are returned. And, of course, 2024 was no exception.

WWCOTY: a prestigious award

In addition to the Car of the Year award, WWCOTY (Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year) is also responsible for awarding the best car of the year. And this is because of the award, which is presented every year at the beginning of March. It was like that last year Kia Niro which was crowned by members of the jury, which included 75 female automotive journalists from 52 countries. This award recognizes advanced cars in various categories including safety, driving, comfort, technology, design, efficiency, environmental impact and value for money. The Kia Niro, which was initially adjudged as the best city car, ended up being the big winner among winners across all categories. But which model took the trophy this year? Well, it’s a car from the Korean brand again, as it’s the all-new EV9 that’s the big winner for 2024, as announced in an official press release.

WWCOTY Awarded Premium Electric SUV

Thanks to a powerful battery with a capacity of 99.8 kWh, the Kia EV9 can travel up to 541 kilometers on a single charge. Its electric motor reaches 385 horsepower in the most efficient version, offering the perfect combination of autonomy and power. He stood out against four other finalists, namely Volvo EX30, BMW 5 series, Aston Martin DB12 and Volkswagen Amarok. WWCOTY President Marta Garcia emphasized the difficulty of this year’s selection due to the exceptional quality of all candidates. She said: “This year’s election was particularly difficult because of the excellent quality of all the candidates. Each of the finalists had enough merit to win the trophy. The Kia EV9 beat its competitors because it is a car that can satisfy the needs of consumers around the world.” Created in 2009 by New Zealand automotive journalist Sandy Mair WWCOTY is the only all-female jury in the automotive industry.

The vehicles tested were evaluated on criteria such as safety, quality, value, design, performance and environmental impact, reflecting the same principles that drivers consider when purchasing a vehicle.
