Refueling is obviously not fun, quite the opposite. Moreover, the prices are usually particularly high.

Impressive growth

And for good reason, the latter have grown significantly in France since the beginning war in Ukraine, but also through taxes. Because the prices in our European neighbors are not so high. Which then makes life very difficult for certain motorists, and they sometimes have to cut short their trips, especially for personal recreation. But, nevertheless, we are doing quite well at home, compared to some other countries. And especially compared to Cuba. In fact, there is a price for gasoline and diesel increased by 500% from March 1. An increase that took effect one month after the originally scheduled date. The origin of this report is attributed to a cyber security incident. Now the island of Cuba is experiencing an unprecedented economic crisis, inflation reaches 30%. For Cubans, this means they will now have to dig deep into their wallets to stock up on gas.

Higher prices

Specifically, this reform will lead to a significant increase in gas prices. A liter of ordinary gasoline will go from 25 Cuban pesos (about 20 cents) to 132 pesos ($1.10), a whopping 528% increase. In addition, a liter of super will increase by 30 Cuban pesos (25 cents) to 156 pesos ($1.30), also a 520% increase. It is important to note that this measure does not apply to transporters, for whom the price of fuel remains unchanged. However, the increase in gas prices has also been postponed. Faced with persistent budget deficits, the Cuban government made these decisions in an effort to cut costs. Cuba’s economy has already contracted by 2% in 2023, and Economy Minister Alejandro Gil has stressed that the country can no longer continue to sell fuel at subsidized prices. Despite the American embargo, Cuba faces a shortage of foreign currency, and it is no longer possible to keep fuel prices at the lowest level in the world.

This sudden increase in fuel prices will have ramifications for the daily lives of Cubans, who will have to adapt to the new economic reality.
