Today, he takes a new step by demanding a density 500 Wh/kg. This performance allows Amprius to predict the release of a battery that, compared to the average batteries available on the market, can offer the same autonomy as some of the best in the sector, while space and weight are halved.

This battery has a certified result

The record battery performance of the American company has been confirmed by Mobile Power Solutions, a company specializing in battery performance evaluation. According to Mobile Power Solutions, the Amprius Technologies lithium-ion battery achieves a density of 504 Wh/kg and 1,321 Wh/l at 25 degrees Celsius. This technological feat opens new perspectives in the field of electric vehicles, offering increased autonomy and impressive energy density. These advances could revolutionize the automotive industry by reducing range limitations and enabling longer trips on a single charge. Furthermore, this exceptional performance could also have major implications in other sectors, such as energy storage for domestic and industrial applications. By combining energy efficiency and density, this battery promises to significantly improve the way energy is used and stored.

New perspectives of use

Amprius claims the performance of its battery opens the door to a new series of batteries for future electric vehicles. With such a high density, this battery can also find its place in aeronautical sector, where battery weight is currently a major concern and raises serious questions about the electric future of the industry. This is confirmed by Pierre-Antoine Aubourg, technical director of Aalto Haps, an Airbus branch that works on new generation technologies and equipment. “We are currently looking closely at the benefits of the new Amprius 500Wh battery”said Pierre-Antoine Aubourg, “in order to continue to improve our products. » However, this battery does have some drawbacks, one of which seems particularly problematic considering its upcoming market launch. Amprius says its 500kW/kg battery has service life from 200 to 1200 cycles. As a rough estimate, the battery can begin to noticeably deteriorate between 500 and 700 cycles. But in certain situations it can lose effectiveness after 200 or 300 cycles according to Amprius.

Remember that the average life of an electric battery is estimated at approximately 1000 to 1500 recharge cycles. Which corresponds to between 250,000 and 500,000 kilometers depending on usage and battery capacity. In terms of durability, the American company still has a long way to go to reach the level of current batteries in the industry.
