In 2021, almost 75,000 driver’s licenses became invalid due to lack of points. Of these, more than half of the points were deducted for minor violations, such as slightly speeding or going around a solid line.

This finding not only highlights the need for increased road safety awareness, but also highlights the consequences these points losses can have, especially for road professionals.

Road professionals are more susceptible

Truck drivers, freight and passenger transport drivers, as well as couriers were the most affected by the sanctions. Their jobs require them to spend long hours behind the wheel, often in challenging conditions. Strict rules governing driving and rest time are aimed at ensuring their safety and the safety of other road users. however, the constant threat of losing their driver’s license is an additional burden in the performance of their duties.
For these professionals, a driver’s license is much more than a simple identification document: it is the very tool of their existence. Their loss is equivalent to losing their job and can have financial consequences for them and their families. Currently, the legislation allows drivers to recover their points by taking road safety courses. However, this option is limited to just one course per year, which is often not enough for road professionals who are more prone to losing points due to time spent on the road.

Therefore, a draft law is currently being discussed that would correct this situation. This proposal is intended to allow traffic professionals to participate in the second course of recovery of pointsto better meet their specific needs.

This initiative is welcomed by many players in the transport industry, who see it as an important step towards protecting road workers and promoting responsible driving. However, some critics emphasize the need to accompany this event with other initiatives aimed at improving the skills and awareness of professional drivers.
