There is no electrification for Sandero
There Dacia Sandero is an important model for the Romanian manufacturer: it is the brand’s most popular model and it maintains its place as the best-selling car for individuals in France for the 8th year in a row, in all segments, with a total of 69,106 registrations in 2023.
One of the reasons for its success is its affordable price, and Dacia has no intention of changing that anytime soon: in fact, Xavier Martine, director of marketing, sales and operations of the Dacia brand, said during an interview to our British colleagues atcoach that the fact that only thermal engines (petrol and LPG) are offered on the Sandero has helped keep it affordable price for customers.
The Romanian manufacturer does not intend to release hybrid or electric engines for its flagship model until the market demands it. “The question is more: are customers willing to pay a few thousand euros extra to buy a hybrid? And the answer: not very much”– he clarifies.
Dacia Sandero: thermal engines have a future
In the Dacia range, the Sandero is currently the only model without an electrified engine: in fact, the Jogger and Duster now offer a hybrid engine. However, this is not for technical reasons, as the Sandero is based on Platform CMF-Btogether with Renault Clio, which offers hybrid engines.
However, Xavier Martine clarifies that such a wide range of engines as the Clio on the Sandero would threaten its positioning and appeal: “We don’t have a hybrid engine or a plug-in hybrid to reduce our investment costs, and who benefits? Buyer. Making a choice is the hardest part of our job, but I think it shows that Dacia is one of the few brands in Europe that can really make bold choices.”– he concludes.
Remember that this selection applies to the current generation of Dacia Sandero. However, it should be updated by 2027 with an all-new generation, in which case electrified engines should be adopted for the first time.
For customers looking for a 100% electric engine, Dacia offers the Spring, which has just been updated.
