Some changes

Having a driver’s license is obviously not an easy task. But once it’s in your pocket, you know you’ll keep it for the rest of your life, or almost. Obviously, it happens that the latter is withdrawn after the offense has been committed or when several of them have been committed in a row. But for several months now, the European Union has been reforming this expertise, as well as the conditions for its storage. After discussing the establishment of a mandatory medical examination every 15 years, it will also be introduced new activities. Among them are enriched practical tests. Candidates will now have to deal with winter situations, operate assistance systems, open doors safely, check blind spots and use phones responsibly. In addition, the administrative validity of the permit will be harmonized at the European level. It will be 15 years for motorcycles and cars, 5 years for trucks and buses. This measure aims to simplify administrative procedures for drivers traveling between different member states.

And in France?

That’s not all, because young drivers will be subject to a probationary period of at least two years, accompanied by stricter measures. Among these measures, the blood alcohol level allowed for newcomers will be reduced to 0.2 g/l. In addition, they will be able to help compensate for the lack of professional drivers by obtaining licenses to drive buses and trucks from the age of 18. Finally, Brussels is also implementing the digital driving license already in place in France. In short, this reform aims to improve road safety, encourage environmental practices and adapt to technological progress. This marks an important step in the harmonization of the rules of conduct in the EU, taking into account the peculiarities of each member state. But when will it be accepted in France? Nothing has been confirmed at the moment, but it should happen soon. Obviously, we won’t keep you updated.
