Maserati GranCarbio (2024): the dream is still allowed Auto Plus news in your smartphone

While our cars are becoming mostly electric, there are still certain products that are still standing up to the challenge of electrons. Please note that this does not apply to this Maserati GranCabrio just unveiled by the Italian manufacturer, as it will also be eligible for its 100% electric version.

But before that, the company with the trident presents us with a completely thermal version of the Trofeo, and we remain speechless.

The most elegant modern Maserati?

The Maserati GranCabrio, which disappeared from radar screens in 2019, returns in 2024. Aesthetically, it resembles the codes of the GranTurismo coupe model, except that it is equipped with a canvas cover. The 20-inch wheels at the front and 21 at the rear are available in six different versions, and the canvas roof is available in five colors: black, navy blue, titanium gray, gray and garnet. There are six body colors to choose from: Astro White, Absolute Black, Modena Blue, Metallic Green, Incognito Gray and Maratea Gray Matte. Added to this are the 26 special colors present in the Maserati Fuoriserie personalization program.
The new Maserati GranCabrio, like the GranTurismo, is a big, long GT 4.96 meters and 1.95 meters wide, while the height is slightly higher than in the coupe, reaching 1.36 meters. The wheelbase remained unchanged and is 2.92 meters. Like the Porsche 911 Cabriolet, the GranCabrio has four seats. The cargo capacity of the rear trunk is only partially reduced by the space required to accommodate the open and folded top. Really, volume varies from 172 liters with the roof closed to 131 liters with the roof openagainst 310 liters in the GranTurismo. There is an empty weight 1.895 kg.

Cabriolet in step with the times

Inside, little has changed compared to the GranTurismo, most notably the addition of an electric soft-top that can operate at speeds of up to 50 km/h. The roof opens in 14 seconds and closes in 16 seconds. Everything is designed for driving with the top down, including a three-speed adjustable neck warmer and the presence of an air deflector that can be installed in front of the rear seats to reduce cabin turbulence when the roof is up. OPEN.
We also find a system of digital instruments on a 12.3-inch screen, a classic round digital clock on the dashboard, a voice assistant that responds to saying “Hey Maserati” included in the Maserati Intelligent Assistant (MIA) multimedia system, wireless connection for Apple CarPlay , Android Auto and Baidu CarLife and Maserati Connect services.

High productivity

The body of the Maserati GranCabrio is made of strong and light materials such as aluminum (65%), steel and magnesium, weighing only 100 kg more than the GranTurismo. Essentially, the car was designed to accommodate both electric and thermal versions. The new GranCabrio Trofeo is powered by an engine we know well, namely the sweetly named Nettuno 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6. Among other advantages, it has a wet crankcase and a cylinder deactivation system. The power is 550 hp. at 6500 rpm, and the torque is 650 Nm at 3000 rpm..
Maserati claims a top speed of 316 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h 12.2 seconds. Maserati touts a weight distribution of 51% front and 49% rear, all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The competition will be huge

Pricing for the Maserati GranCabrio has yet to be officially announced, but it is expected to cost around €15,000 more than the GranTurismo. So that would give us base price just under €200,000excluding options and excluding the environmental penalty.
Among the few direct competitors of the new GranCabrio, we can name the Bentley Continental GTC and the BMW 8 Series Convertible, two models that have similar power and prices, except for four seats.

There’s also the Aston Martin DB12 Volante, Ferrari Roma Spider, Mercedes-AMG SL and Porsche 911 Cabriolet, but they have a 2+2 configuration.
