McLaren renews war with Ferrari by unveiling the new Artura Spider, a hybrid supercar convertible that packs a punch 700 hp and maximum speed 330 km/h. The French price is set from 271,700 euros and the first deliveries are scheduled for the second half of 2024.

The McLaren Artura Spider has several improvements over the coupe, including a slightly revised design to accommodate a retractable hardtop. The 2025 model year coupe will get plenty of upgrades, and you can order both now.

A little heavier than the coupe

Despite the addition of a retractable hardtop, The Artura Spider weighs only 62 kg more than the coupe, with a declared empty weight of 1560 kg. The designers had to change several elements to adapt them to the retractable roof, including adding new supports and changing the location of the air intakes. Eight electric motors control the entire roof mechanism, opening and closing it in 11 seconds at speeds of up to 50 km/h. The dimensions of the McLaren Artura Spider are the same as the coupe, p 4.53 meters long and 1.97 meters wide. The height also remains unchanged – 1.19 meters, as well as the load capacity of the front trunk, which is 160 liters.
The interior of the new McLaren Artura Spider is identical to the interior of the coupe. The dashboard also emphasizes ease of access to information and includes controls for selecting drive and transmission modes. The Artura also features a low-energy Bluetooth key that detects when the driver approaches the vehicle and unlocks the vehicle.

Hybrid in shape? Not at all…

The entire hybrid powertrain is based primarily on a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 that provides a combined power 700 hp and 720 Nm of torque, or by 20 hp. more than in a coupe. New engine mounts limit transmission movement and improve stability. The eight-speed gearbox has been revised, and the Woking firm announces gear changes 25% faster than in the coupe.
The Spider is capable of sprinting to 100 km/h in 3.0 seconds, 200 km/h in 8.4 seconds and 300 km/h in 21.6 seconds, before reaching an electronically limited top speed of 330 km/h. . 100% electric mode offers up to 33 km of autonomy. The Artura is equipped with a 7.4 kWh battery and a 65 liter fuel tank.

McLaren Artura has no shortage of competitors

Deliveries will begin in the middle of the year. In France, the new McLaren Artura Spider will cost from 271,700 euros 247,000 euros for the coupe. Artura CoupĂ© owners will be able to ask the brand to increase their car’s output to 700 horsepower instead of 680 horsepower with a simple software update.
The direct competitor of the McLaren Artura Spider is, of course, the Ferrari 296 GTS, a convertible from Maranello, which, like the British one, uses a powerful hybrid engine developing 830 hp.

Not electrified, but still comparable in terms of power, performance and price, there’s also the Lamborghini Huracan Evo Spyder and its formidable 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10, the Maserati MC20 Cielo and its bi-turbo V6, or even the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible and its naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8.
