The rare manufacturer to make the trip to the Geneva Motor Show alongside Renault, MG succeeded by introducing some very promising new products…
The long-awaited MG 3 is finally here
The Sino-British brand continues play in the European market, constantly expanding its range with new models. The MG4 compact electric, the ZS petrol crossover and the MG5 wagon (one of the few in the category to be offered in electric mode) are all prime examples without forgetting that. the upcoming Cyberster roadster. The brand is now tackling a segment that has so far been left behind in its European expansion: the city car segment. It was there, in Geneva, that the world premiere took place the new MG3. With a fairly traditional style, it positions itself as a new alternative to the market leaders: Dacia Sandero, Toyota Yaris and Renault Clio! If the first is mainly focused on its price (MG 3 should start at €20,000), seconds…for their hybrid engine! Because this time, new Chinese products do not rhyme with 100% electricity! The MG 3 has a “full hybrid” powertrain with a capacity of 194 horsepower.. A strong argument, to which must be added the very extensive standard equipment, including GPS, automatic air conditioning, a 10.25-inch touchscreen compatible with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, adaptive cruise control and a rearview camera. Market leaders can tremble!
MG takes the premium
MG didn’t just go to Geneva with the MG3 in its suitcases. The brand introduced two more new products: MG 9 sedan and MG S9 crossover. After conquering the European market with common and affordable models, MG now dreams of premium, and this is exactly the task that the new duo will have to take on. MG9 is an electric sedan positioned opposite the Tesla Model S, its streamlined appearance, connected interior and chic design leave no doubt about it. It feeds on a Block for 340 horsepowerand offers three battery sizes, allowing for a range of 500 km (64 kWh) and 602 km (77 kWh) or even 702 km with a 90 kWh battery. However, these numbers need to be refined, as they are derived from Chinese approval tests, which are much more optimistic than our European protocol. The MG S9, which is an SUV derived from a sedan, has the same engine, but the range varies from 536 to 670 km. We will have to wait a little longer before we know the figures for European autonomy. The fourth model was finally present at the MG stand: The MG 7, which is not 100% electric, is. This is a sedan Fastback equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline unit with a capacity of 261 horsepower. We can also tell you that this model has very little chance of arriving in France…
We don’t know what will happen to the MG 9 and MG S9 here, but we do know this the MG 3 city car will hit dealerships later this year.
