Rumors reported by the British media suggest that the German carmaker is seriously considering bringing this classic back to life by infusing it with modernity.

Volkswagen is considering turning the electric Scirocco into a sports car, according to inside sources told Autocar. two engines and four-wheel drive. Subject to the approval of Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schaefer, this project may see the light of day by 2028. This Scirocco will naturally sit above the ID.3 and should be based on the PPE platform that will also be used for the new Boxster and Cayman.
The electric Scirocco is expected to offer a longer wheelbase than its predecessor, allowing for more accessible and comfortable rear seats. According to preliminary data, the output power of the initial version is about 300 hp, and more than 400 hp. for the top version. Of course, this has yet to be confirmed by the manufacturer, so claims made here and there should be treated with caution. It will probably take us a few years to see things more clearly because, as explained above, this project is still being studied, in other words, it has not (yet) been confirmed by those responsible for the Wolfsburg brand.

Better integration between brands

This resurrection of the Scirocco is part of Volkswagen Group’s wider strategy to achieve economies of scale by promoting greater integration between brands, sharing components and cooperation in production. Although the production location has yet to be determined, the former Karmann factory in Osnabrück, Germany is being considered as a possible option. If this project gets the green light, we won’t have to wait too long before prototypes of this so-called Scirocco hit the roads. These prototypes could be launched quickly, allowing everyone to better visualize the design chosen by the teams.
