Among the manufacturers that recently entered the European market, MG is undoubtedly the best, with the exception of Tesla, which has already been “rolling” for more than a decade.

However, MG’s success was not necessarily the most obvious, especially when the brand clearly declared itself Chinese when it was launched in France in 2019, an argument that even today does not necessarily speak in its favor, despite the products that Nema something to envy, even on the contrary, to some well-known European manufacturers.

MG calmly advances his pawns

Since then, communication around the brand has improved significantly and MG is also continuing its glorious European past by reprising some of its standout models from years gone by, as seen at the Rétromobile show. Then the brand did not want to revolutionize everything when it hit our roads. The recipe is quite traditional: a strong network based on already well-established distribution groups, classic after-sales service, interaction with real people, not artificial intelligence, and products that are mostly accessible and relevant in today’s world. Other manufacturers coming to France seem to have finally caught on, such as Chinese manufacturer BYD, which is adopting the same strategy.
MG is not reinventing the wheel, and it works, as the manufacturer sold 34,441 units in France last year, helped of course by the environmental bonus and its MG4, and even if the manufacturer predicts a less favorable 2024, several new products will arrive this year, should allow us to maintain the bar. Among them will be the MG3, a hybrid city car available for less than €20,000 and a direct competitor to the Toyota Yaris. It will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show, which will open at the end of February, and along with it, will be a large premium sedan called the IM L6. But what is it?

A broken strategy

As mentioned above, MG is not changing the distribution codes in Europe, and to continue the expansion, the manufacturer will launch a premium brand. We can obviously draw parallels with Toyota and Lexus, or even, to a lesser extent, Nissan and (later) Infiniti. IM, for “Intelligent Mobility.” a new 100% electric manufacturer from the SAIC group which will produce premium cars that the manufacturer describes as“Innovative, ultra-technological and forward-looking exciting driving experience. »
MG is pretty tight-lipped on information at the moment, we just know that it will be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 3 seconds, offering a range of over 600 km and 800 km depending on the battery. And speaking specifically of batteries, the large sedan will be based on a solid battery that will allow you to travel 800 km on a single charge and more than 600 km with a more traditional lithium-ion battery.

China has already spilled the beans

This is for official information. As for unofficial information, we can always trust China’s Ministry of Information, which released the car’s approval photos and various technical information a few weeks ago. This way we know what IM L6 will measure 4.93 meters long and 1.96 meters wide and that it will be available in two or four wheels with powers ranging from From 340 to 787 horsepower.
Planned launch of the IM brand in Europe? 2025 year according to a press release. In terms of price, you should expect the range to be well above the prices charged by MG. The premium model obliges, it is difficult to imagine a car below the bar 50,000 euros.

Also, it would be right in front of a certain BYD Seal, a powerful and durable Chinese electric sedan that costs almost the same in France.
