ZF: adaptive seat belt tensioner

Thus, ZF offers a new belt tensioner with a multi-level adaptive force limiter (MSLL) that turns it into an intelligent, flexible and controllable safety device. Thanks to several levels, it is able to further vary the restraining force throughout the duration of the crash.
This system allows discreet behavior suitable for people of different heights and weights, and therefore properly control the belt tension. This smart seat belt will help further reduce potential passenger injurieswhich will allow car manufacturers to meet the increased requirements of the Euro NCAP road map by 2030.
ZF is taking this opportunity to reveal its vision for the future of seat belts: to improve the recognition of the people sitting on board the vehicle, and therefore more accurately determine the individual fixation force that will be applied to each belt in the event of a collision, manufacturers will be able to internal cameras to analyze the behavior of the driver and passengers.

External obstacle detection systems will also come in handy to determine the direction of impact and thus better protect passengers depending on their position on board.
