War has been declared on sports electric cars!
Productivity remains at the heart of electrification
Having developed several “civilian” models adapted to everyday needs, car manufacturers realized that, in order to make it easier for some refractory customers to pass the 100% electric pill, emotions had to be evoked. Who talks about emotions, he talks about speed, performance and sportsmanship! Most market players have since been working on developing electric models with a more playful temperament. As such, Groupe Renault has been teasing the upcoming sports version of its R5 E-Tech for months under the Alpine brand and will be called A290. It is in the final stages of testing, as evidenced by the latest images provided by the manufacturer. Volkswagen also dreams of a sporty electric Polo with its ID.2 GTX concept. Some manufacturers have already made this dream a reality, for example MG has developed its compact MG4 with a sporty touch in a new version called X-Power. Hyundai also recently introduced a supercharged version of its electric bestseller: the IONIQ 5 N. The Volkswagen Group today puts forward a new pawn in the form of the Cupra Born VZ.
Born VZ: Cupra has an advantage over Volkswagen
Under its own brand, Volkswagen is already releasing the ID.4 and ID.5 GTX on the marketand also prepare the appearance of the sports sedan ID.7 GTX. But for several years, the company also promised to develop an affordable sports version of its compact ID.3. Unfortunately, we’re still waiting for that ID.3 GTX, which has just been prioritized by its cousin in the Cupra. The newborn “Veloz” (VZ) wins a unique shade of Esterel Green, specific 20-inch wheels and copper-colored decorative inserts that visually emphasize its physique. Aboard, it inherits the Cup Bucket seats and a new 12.9-inch screen, wider than on standard Nar. But the sporty interest of this new version lies primarily under the hood. The electric motor now develops 325 horsepower at 545 Nm of torque, and in terms of performance, it gains one second from 0 to 100 km/h, now reduced to 5.7 seconds. The Cupra has tweaked the battery capacity slightly, which has gone up to 79kWh and can now travel 570 kilometers on one charge. This Born VZ also features new shocks, a new anti-roll bar, more precise steering and a brake system fixed.
Both aesthetic and mechanical modifications that should allow it to stay serious in the game against its Chinese rival MG4 X-Power!
