A little change

When we’re young, we often look forward to one thing: passing the driving test. In fact, the latter is synonymous with independence and marks the beginning of a new life as well as facilitates the search for a job, among other things. However, passing the exam is not easy and some opt for an automatic transmission license which is a bit easier to obtain. But the latter are undergoing certain changes. Indeed, 2024 marks an important turning point for driver’s licenses with several important developments. Among them, lowering the age of receipt to 17, the possibility of financing motorcycle rights through a personal training account (CPF), as well as the introduction of a dematerialized license. However, there have been persistent rumors about the ease of obtaining a manual transmission license for automatic transmission license holders. Yesterday there was an order specifying the “training procedure”.

Simplified learning

Until now, the owners of automatic transmission license could already prepare for a manual transmission license as soon as the first one was obtained. However, the decree states that this training can be completed only “three months after receiving category B.” The new decree simply removes this restriction. In other words, you will no longer have to wait so long to get your manual transmission license. Another notable innovation: training can now be conducted on a simulator, but not within one hour, as it was before. Candidates will now be eligible for two hours of simulation. In addition, the first drive, which lasts two hours, will allow students to learn to master the “clutch slip point” and ensure a safe start on a hill. This sequence can be performed even independently, without teacher supervision. The industry’s main union, SNICA-FO, is questioning the move, which it doesn’t approve of: Are we “going overboard”?
