Contrary to what one might think due to the complexity and electrification of engines, new cars have not lost their reliability, on the contrary!
Cars are getting more and more reliable, especially Lexus
Test purchasesan association that aims to inform, protect and represent Belgian consumers, conducted a large survey from March to June 2023. They surveyed no less than 30,000 people from 9 different countries and owners of vehicles between 6 months and 12 years old. And the results of this investigation are now obvious: cars in 2023 are more reliable than in 2021, the date of their last survey. The good news for drivers does not end there. Obviously, cars are still far from perfect and still break down. But when they do happen, these issues are usually better covered by manufacturers’ warranties. If in 2021 only 43% of breakdowns were eliminated at the expense of brands, now this figure has increased to 85%! That being said, there are still some cars that face (much) less trouble than others. AND in the little game of reliability, Lexus wins the Palme d’Or again and again as it was in 2021 and also in 2019. Japanese brands also dominate the top of the rankings, with Lexus followed by Suzuki, Subaru and Toyota.. The leading European manufacturer is a little surprising, because it is Cupra who manages to climb 5d position.
Land Rover and diesels at the end of the rating…
Unfortunately, The last place in the reliability rating is also not a big surprise. In fact, it is occupied by an English brand of all-terrain vehicles Land Rover. Finally, maybe it’s best not to go on an adventure driving one of their models, despite the roadworthiness of the latter… As for French manufacturers, they also do not shine in the masses. DS Automobiles it is the first brand from France to appear on 13d place in the rating. It is followed by Renault, which only climbed to 29d place, while Citroën is 33rdd place and Peugeot 34d position out of 36 entries in the rating. Not scary. Concerning Dacia, a low-cost manufacturer, rises to 16th placed position. On the other hand, if Japanese brands mostly occupy the upper part of the ranking in terms of reliability, The model with the fewest problems comes straight from the land of pasta and pizza because it’s relevant Fiat Panda when equipped with a hybrid engine! Moreover, it is hybrid and 100% electric vehicles that generally receive the best marks in terms of reliability. On the other hand, diesel cars break down most often.
In short, if you’re looking for peace of mind, it’s better to choose a hybrid Lexus or Fiat Panda than a diesel Land Rover…
