There are many car manufacturers that have launched in the past the great adventure of aviation…
When car brands also make airplanes
How not to remember SAAB of course (literally “Swedish Aircraft Company”), which has certainly disappeared from the automotive market, but continues to supply the Swedish Air Force with multirole fighters and transport aircraft (like the famous Grippen). BMW too, whose propeller-shaped logo is no stranger to this part of its history. Of course, we had Renault, associated with Caudron, which gave birth to the now famous Rafale in 1934. Gabrielle Voisin, Fiat Aviazione, Honda and Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation other famous examples… Today it is a Chinese airline company, which, in turn, begins the production of cars: Jun Yao Air. Founded in 2005, it currently operates 91 aircraft both on domestic routes within the country and on international flights. It is also associated with the Star Alliance association (which includes, in particular, Lufthansa, Swiss Air, Turkish Airlines).
June Yao Air becomes June Yao Auto
Jun Yao Air’s wishes to develop a 360-degree service for its customerswhich, for example, leaving the plane, a VTC service to get home or a fleet of rental cars. This is the whole point of this new division, which has so successfully adopted the name June Yao Auto. However, this does not come out of nowhere, as since June, Yao Air has been the majority shareholder of Chinese automaker Yudo since 2022. It is thanks to him that she now has a know-how in automotive engineering and the development of electrical technologies. She notes the first chapter of Jun Yao Auto’s story: a large electric sedan with a design heavily inspired by aviation. Minimalistic, its silhouette maximizes aerodynamics, with Fastback profile, rear spoiler and door handles. The interior should be just as refined, but it hasn’t been revealed yet: the most we know is what it will offer panoramic glass roofas well as a touch screen in the center of the instrument panel.
