Nissan likes to expose its SUVs to extreme conditions to demonstrate their capabilities. After sending the 100% electric Ariya on an expedition around the world, the Japanese manufacturer is using the winter season to introduce Mountain savior Nissan X-Trail : an exclusive vehicle modified for the needs of the mountain rescue service and designed to raise awareness among skiers in European resorts while demonstrating the benefits of its e-4orce four-wheel drive system.

“The development of X-Trail Mountain Rescue and the accompanying campaign is a bold and innovative way to help consumers understand the benefits of the electrified all-wheel drive Nissan e-4orce. Thousands of winter sports enthusiasts who will drive through the five ski resorts will appreciate and understand the peace of mind and balance that the X-Trail, equipped with the e-4orce transmission, offers on the road.– said on this occasion Coralie Musi, Vice President of Nissan AMIEO Brand and Customer Service (Africa, Middle East, India, Europe and Oceania).

Nissan X-Trail Mountain Rescue: ready for winter

Nissan X-Trail Mountain Rescue received numerous modifications, the most obvious of which is the replacement of wheels with snow tracks, to improve its grip on snowy tracks, as well as widen the front and rear fenders. The front panel has been modified to accommodate a winch, complete with reinforced tow hooks front and rear. We also find a roof rack equipped with stretchers, skis and snow shovels, all accompanied by a siren, a strip of flashing lights, as well as powerful spotlights, not forgetting the flashing lights in the radiator grille.

To access the car now 23 cm higher, steps were added to the sides. It includes stretchers and paramedic seats that replace the rear seats to allow injured skiers to be transported to the nearest medical facility, as well as numerous first aid.

Ultra-fast all-wheel drive

Of course, this Nissan X-Trail Mountain Rescue is equipped electrified all-wheel drive e-4orce the twin engine fitted to the standard X-Trail. It is able to react extremely quickly to clutch changes, by 1/10,000thousand seconds, or 1000 times faster than traditional mechanical four-wheel drive. This system is also able to distribute torque independently to each wheel, adapting to any traction conditions.

This winter, this X-Trail Mountain Rescue will be displayed in a glass box in Italy, in the ski resort of Cervinia. The operation called “Drive responsibly” (“ski responsibly”) will also be held in 5 ski resorts in Europe: digital signs will be installed on slopes to encourage skiers to slow down at intersections and reduce the risk of accidents. Educational signs, similar to traffic signs, will display messages to skiers based on their speed.
