Hyundai Ioniq 5 N: an even sportier version is coming Auto Plus news in your smartphone Auto Plus news in your inbox

Hyundai is preparing to introduce an even sportier version of its Ioniq 5 N model. This special version, called the NPX1, will debut at the Tokyo Motor Show, scheduled for January 12-14. While details are still scarce, it appears to be a special track version, at least according to the information provided by the manufacturer in a video posted on YouTube.

At first glance, the Ioniq 5 N NPX1 stands out with its large rear spoiler, which makes it clear that this is no ordinary version. The images show the presence of a full body kit, including a substantial front splitter, generous rear diffuser and carbon fiber mirror caps.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is much lighter

This car may also look familiar to you, and it makes sense. Last month, during the N Festival in South Korea, Hyundai showed images of an extreme version of the Ioniq 5, the eN1 Cup car.

Although it is not known if this is the same car, the latter was equipped with the same significant body kit, 551 kg less than the standard Ioniq 5 N. It also had a custom adjustable suspension.

A racing car that will give rise to an even sportier production version?

The racing car was equipped with 18-inch discs with slick tires, six-piston brake calipers in the front and four-piston in the rear. It had polycarbonate side and rear windows, a pneumatic jack, an FIA compliant six-point roll bar and a battery overheat safety switch.

The soon-to-be-launched model appears to be in line with Hyundai’s intention to enter South Korea’s first single-brand EV competition with the Ioniq 5 N. Development is expected to be completed next month, and the eN1 Cup Series car is expected to hit the track as early as May.

Apparently, drivers will be able to simulate gear changes with the N E-Shift function, which acts like an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
