Janvan, does this name mean something to you? No? It’s ok, this brand is only distributed in China now. On the other hand, its parent company may be more familiar to you: BYD. This Chinese automaker, which arrived in France less than two years ago, already offers 5 electric models in its range. The Seal sedan (anti-Tesla Model 3) and the Seal U SUV (anti-Tesla Model Y) will arrive or are about to arrive in France. If she gets so much attention, that’s whyit is now closely behind Tesla as the leading manufacturer of electric vehicles in the world. In 2023, the American company sold 1.8 million, compared to BYD’s 1.6 million: the loop between the two is tightening, and seriously! BYD will not stop there, as two new brands will soon appear in Europe: Denza, its premium division, and Yangwang, its high-end division…

YangWang, when BYD will reach for the stars

Introduced only a year ago with the U8 SUVYangwang is BYD’s technology laboratory, the standard bearer of its know-how in engines, batteries, equipment and – in general – innovation. Later in April, the company unveiled its second model: an electric supercar called the U9. today, a third thief is added to the equation: the U7 electric sedan. It is the new standard bearer of the brand, which should compete with the largest and most luxurious German electric sedans: with Mercedes-Benz EQS and BMW i7 targeted Even Tesla does not offer its own alternative in this niche, which shows that BYD is not only interested in its direct rival, but extends its striking power to all categories of the market…

U7, the new high-end electric sedan

For now, we (almost) only know its design. This is streamlined sedan with an aerodynamic line : its air penetration coefficient is only 0.19 compared to 0.20 for Mercedes EQS and 0.23 for Tesla Model 3. So this Yangwang U7 becomes, related to the new Xiaomi SU7, nothing more, nothing less than the most aerodynamic sedan in the world! In its distant relative BYD Seal, we find a false look: clean lines, conical headlights, flush door handles.

Yangwang promises more than 1,000 horsepower (750 kW), and, thanks to the use of the manufacturer’s in-house e4 technology, “precise behavior and a high level of safety.” For the rest, interior, battery specifications and detailed configuration, you will still have to be patient : the images just hint at the use of Lidar, as we can see on the roofline above the windshield. YangWang hasn’t revealed a release date or price yet…
