Since the announcement of its revival as part of the Renaulution plan, nostalgic fans and fans of the brand are waiting for the R5, but also by drivers who are attracted by an attractive and affordable electric car. For this last point, Renault reiterates that the base price of this R5 will be “around €25,000”, on the same level as hybrids in the B segment. At this price, of course, you’ll have to settle for a more modest 40kWh battery, which won’t be offered until later. High-end versions will be more generously equipped, with a battery with a capacity of 52 kWh, which promises 400 km of autonomy. This is slightly larger than the current Zoe, which she will replace.

Iconic style and details

For temptation, the R5 E-Tech Electric can count on retro styling adapted to a compact format. Its total length is 3.92 m he is unveiling the new AmpR Small platform, formerly called CMF-B EV. While that’s 40cm more than the original 1972 R5, it’s also 16cm less than the Zoé. In addition to the overall styling of the R5 of yesteryear, designers took care of iconic details, modernized to suit, from the pupil-drawing headlights to the aerodynamic taillights, including the muscular wheel arches reminiscent of the R5 Turbo. On the back of the trunk, the number “5” seems to have replaced the off-center rhombus of the Renault concept. But first of all, air intake on the hood in front of the driver is symbolized here by the battery charge indicator, the image of which forms the symbolic number “5” when charging is complete.

An interesting photo worth waiting for

Finally, the biggest mystery of the new R5 is its interior! Thanks to photo published on the “Cochespias” forum, now we know what its driver information screen looks like… Unsurprisingly, it’ll also be extremely retro: 80s inspired design, with its colorful hatching and its Seventies font! The center of the screen seems to be used for charging informationand information about speed and driving will be displayed to the right and left of it.

But this photo is very strange, because the R5 won’t be able to hit 249 km/h as suggested… Fake or pre-production? Hard to say. Anyway, from here official presentation of the R5 E-Tech Electric on February 26, 2024, Renault will continue to tease with a massive “R5VOLUTION IS BACK” campaign, illustrating in particular a giant “5” in three colors (blue, yellow, green) that will be part of the production car’s color scheme. But also through a short film with sound no less than Daft Punk!
