Social leasing: the authorities are delighted with the success Auto Plus news in your smartphone Auto Plus news in your inbox

Since the launch of social leasing on December 14, the system has generated “sincere interest” among French motorists, especially those in the bottom 50% of households. The Minister of Energy, Agnès Panier Runacher, welcomes this massive support in an interview given to La Tribune on Sunday, January 7.

The principle of electric social leasing allows these households to rent an electric car for about one hundred euros per month under certain conditions, which we recently collected for you on Auto Plus. Since mid-December, the My Electroleasing special platform has been recording “more than a million connections”according to the minister, and about 80,000 people have already expressed their interestwith contacts initiated last week.

Social leasing offers the opportunity to access electric vehicles at a price equivalent to thermal models, particularly thanks to the emergence of new affordable models such as the €23,300 Citroën ë-C3.

Thanks to a government subsidy of around €13,000, these models are becoming very affordable and have unbeatable rents. We were able to observe the aforementioned Citroën for €54 per month or the Renault Twingo E-Tech for €40 per month.

Is the offer already too limited?

However, the availability of social leasing vehicles can be confusing. Agnes Panier Runacher explains that first 20,000 to 25,000 models will be available in 2024.

Faced with greater potential demand, the question of household choice arises. The minister insists on the priority of those who need a car for work trips.

In response to this possible growing demand, the Stellantis group, according to the minister, shows willingness to increase the number of vehicles provided for social leasing.
