Like all manufacturers, the German firm is not immune to technical failures that can lead to recall campaigns: in the United States, Mercedes has about 80,000 copies were recalled their models, for important security issue.

This security issue only affects certain models in the Mercedes range manufactured between August 1, 2021 and March 31, 2023such as C-Class, E-Class, G-Class, S-Class, GLE, GLS, SL, CLS, as well as the AMG GT 4-door coupe.

Security is an important issue

The German manufacturer has been informed of this potential problem since June 2022 through case reports loss of power on certain Mercedes-Benz models. The operation of the fuel pump was called into question, and after a six-month investigation, Mercedes figured it outan anomaly in certain batches of the fuel pump impellerwhich comes from one of its suppliers.

This misaligned turbine can deform and collide with the fuel pump housing, causing mechanical resistance with consequencesdisconnection of the fuel pump, as well as loss of engine power. Owners of affected vehicles may experience an engine malfunction or see a warning message displayed on the vehicle’s screen.

Mercedes is taking the problem very seriously, as the lack of power or the engine stalls while driving may result in loss of vehicle controland may increase the risk of accident or injury.

Mercedes: 80,000 recalled

The German firm began notifying its dealers about the recall on December 28, 2023, and affected users will be contacted by February 13, 2024. For all affected models, Mercedes dealers will be responsible for replacing the power module in the fuel, free for owners The problem is no longer relevant on models released from April 3, 2023, due to a revision of the fuel pump by the supplier.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall affects a total of 79,676 Mercedes vehicles in the United States. Information on possible consequences for the European market has not yet been received.
