LPGor liquefied petroleum gas, attracts more and more French people. This alternative fuel, which is used in some cars, differs from gasoline mainly in its chemical composition. Although gasoline consists of liquid hydrocarbons (of fossil origin), LPG mainly consists of propane and butane, pressurized gases that are liquefied and stored in an additional vehicle tank in addition to the regular gasoline tank. Such double refueling offers primarily an economic advantage, LPG is traditionally much cheaper than gasoline. On the day we write these lines, a liter of Sans Plomb 95 was exchanged for an average of 1.88 euros compared to only €0.98 per liter of LPG (according to the materials of the site carbu.com). The difference in price, which remains very attractive, despite some disadvantages of liquefied gas allocated for its excess consumption compared to conventional fuel.
The energy crisis has benefited LPG
The French were not mistaken! In 2023, 63,096 LPG cars will be registered in France, compared to 46,849 the year before (according to the PFA platform). Good LPG condition, which can be explained (among other things). the major fuel crisis we have faced since 2021and which seriously intensified in 2023. A liter of diesel fuel has been more expensive than a liter of gasoline for some time, and in the last few weeks even more expensive exceeded 2 euros per liter! In addition, a few cents increase in LPG did not dissuade the French from switching to this energy carrier. And in this “race for LPG” there is A manufacturer that has done particularly well is Dacia!
Dacia at the LPG Summit in France
The Romanian brand has been offering for several years a 100bhp dual fuel system that runs on petrol and LPG is called Eco-G. Offered on Sandero, Duster and Jogger (only the electric spring does not offer this, logically). For the entire year 2023 in France, the brand sold 53,661 units of Eco-G., out of 63,096 new LPG registered cars, all makes combined, remember! In 2022, “only” 41,086 copies were sold. Dacia managed to carve out a good place for itself in LPG, and today it is the undisputed leader in France. In 2023 Renault sold 5,756 LPG versions of its Clio and Captur. The new Duster, which will hit dealerships in the coming months, will be still offered with an LPG engine. Dacia still has good days ahead…
