Among the rising stars of the Chinese automotive industry, BYD is certainly one of the most promising. Previously specializing in heavy goods vehicles and buses, the brand entered the automotive market only in 2002, at that time with the F3 sedan, modeled after the Toyota Corolla. Since then, he has multiplied models, and especially innovations. Design, engines, batteries, platforms, technologies: his improvement in quality was rapid, and it has since been rolled out to many markets. It appeared in Europe very recently: for the first time it was in Germany and Scandinavia, and at the end of 2022 it was introduced in France. He has since announced his intentions to build a car factory in Hungary, to improve its striking power in Europe. Until then, it has just opened the curtain on its sales figures for 2023 and has broken all records…

The second in batteries, and soon the first in electricity?

3.02 million. This is the number of cars sold by BYD worldwide in 2023! It exceeds its indicator for 2022 by 60% where it sold 1.8 million. Success, in particular, thanks to the electrified range. Sales of hybrids and hybrids (PHEVs) were up 52%, and electrics were up 72.8%. From March 2022, the brand no longer produces gasoline and diesel models, specializing in electrified models. in detail, BYD has sold 1,575,000 electric cars worldwide in 2023, a particularly competitive number compared to… Tesla! It is possible that BYD will overtake Tesla as the leading manufacturer of electric vehicles. We’ll still have to wait to get 2023 numbers from the American manufacturer. In any case, BYD was the second largest battery manufacturer for electric vehicles in 2023, immediately after CATL.

Several new features in the program

To strengthen your presence, BYD plans to introduce several models in Europe. It currently offers the Atto 3 and Tang SUVs, the compact Dolphin, and the Han and Seal sedans in France. a few months ago she raised the curtain on her Seal SUV U, also electric and planned to compete with the Tesla Model Y. In China, its home country, BYD just launched the Song L, an SUV coupe that offers 662 kilometers of range, and who might come with us later. The brand expects to sell 3 million units in 2023. At the time, the figure drew a smile from some detractors, but it is clear that she was right, and too much so, as her goals were exceeded.
