In 2023, the automotive market was revived in France. From January to December – 1.77 million cars which were registered in France, increasing by 16.1% compared to 2022. The first trend we observe: electricity exploded ! From 13.3% of the market share in 2022, this energy increased to 16.8% last year with 298,522 units sold. The hybrid is also progressing (595,242 units sold in 2023) by 33.5% compared to 30% in 2022. The biggest loser, of course, is dieselwhose share fell below the token 10% market share mark: 9.7% in 2023 compared to 15.6% in 2022. Fuel remains stable, representing 36.2% of French registrations last year, compared to 37.2% the previous year. But apart from these indicators, which manufacturer has succeeded?
Management Group Stellantis, Renault’s leading brand
With 14 brands, Stellantis remains the #1 group in France. With a 27.4% retail market share, it has a slight advantage over the Renault group (24.6%), which has just three brands: Renault, Dacia and Alpine. On a brand-by-brand basis, Renault leads with 277,914 cars sold.ahead Peugeot (241,512 units), Dacia (156,390) and Citroën (125,932). Toyotathe fifth most effective brand, closes this “Five” with 107,950 cars sold.
What about the model with the most awards in 2023? After four years remaining undefeated, Peugeot 208 gave way to its main competitor Renault Clio ! The city car sold 97,471 units, compared to 86,263 for the 208. Dacia Sandero closes the rating (69,106 units), continues Citroen C3 (59,603) and Peugeot 2008 (49,344).
The Clio was more attractive than the 208
In 2023, Renault Clio won from a mid-career restyling powder the nose abundantly. A very large radiator grille with chrome scales, a row of LEDs located vertically at the ends of the front bumper, new look with “furrowed eyebrows” : this is really his front, which he has declared himself to (re)conquer a clientele that is looking for more personality.
Clio especially enriched its standard equipmente, including LED headlights and a digital dashboard from the first trim level. New version of Esprit Alpine, with a sporty presentation, also included Ice Black brushed aluminum inserts, 17-inch wheels and special badging. On the engine side, we always count two gasoline engines with a capacity of 65 and 90 horsepower, 100 horsepower LPG versionand of course, a hybrid version of E-Tech with a capacity of 145 horsepower. A real step up for a small city car that has clearly paid off…
